Charlie and Marley - the story behind the name
Welcome to Charlie and Marley. I often get asked how I came up with the shop name. I was looking for a name that was catchy, easy to say and memorable. I tossed up with several options. I wanted a name that would be suitable for a shop selling items for baby girls, baby boys and also those wanting gender neutral options.
In the end it was an easy decision Charlie after my partner / husband and Marley after our little male Jack Russell puppy. Both Charlie and Marley are names for both girls and boys and both are gender neutral as well. Just perfect for a shop selling cute items for babies.
I decided to open my shop after friends and family told me that my items were great and I should consider selling them. For many years I made items for fun and gave them away for friends with new babies and small children and also to my niece and nephews. Knitted jumpers and cardigans, a christening suit for my nephew, smocked dresses for my niece, hand embroidered wool blankets and embroidered baby bodysuits.
I belonged to a smocking guild for about 15 years that make and donate tiny smocked gowns, bonnets, booties, and blankets for stillborn and premature babies. They are currently donated to over 40 hospitals throughout our state. I now help once a month to sort and bundle these tiny precious items ready for the twice yearly deliveries.
In my spare time when not creating new designs for my shop I am running my husbands business, running a honey business with my dad (we currently have 3 bee hives on our property) and grow sunflowers for the bees to help with the honey production. I also sell my sunflowers to several local florists and the flower markets in Sydney.
I hope you enjoy my shop and find something that you love.
