Mon intention en tant qu’artisan est de créer des designs innovants exécutés avec un savoir-faire de la plus haute qualité. Mon objectif est d’élever continuellement la barre, en termes de compétences, de capacités de conception et de savoir-faire, afin de créer des bijoux uniques et époustouflants que vous serez fier de porter. J’aime particulièrement apprendre des techniques qui disparaissent de l’utilisation et ramener leur art perdu, ainsi que d’attirer l’attention sur les pierres, les minéraux et les fossiles sous-utilisés.

D’aussi loin que je me souvienne, j’ai été fasciné par la forme et le design. J’aime les antiquités et les bâtiments d’époque, j’admire et collectionne des œuvres d’art de toutes sortes et j’ai une formation en design d’intérieur et en merchandising de mode. La conception de bijoux a en fait commencé comme un passe-temps pour moi avant de devenir ma passion puis mon métier.

Je suis à la fois un métallurgiste travaillant principalement l’argent et l’or et un artiste lapidaire, coupant et polissant toutes les pierres que j’utilise dans mes créations. La taille et l’incrustation de pierres inhabituelles, l’intarsia (créant un motif de pierre taillée) et les chaînes en tricot forgées à la main et en bobine sont toutes des signatures de mon travail. Je m’efforce d’obtenir des lignes de design simples et épurées qui servent à mettre les pierres en évidence, en leur donnant un sentiment de puissance et de drame.

Prendre une idée que je vois dans ma tête et la faire prendre vie comme une chose de beauté est profondément gratifiant pour moi. Ou prendre une « roche » (pierre précieuse / fossile / minéral) dans sa forme brute telle que produite par la nature (déjà belle), puis la couper, la broyer et la polir pour créer une magnifique œuvre d’art à part entière, est gratifiant pour mon âme. Chaque pierre a ses propres forces inhérentes, y compris la profondeur de la couleur, les propriétés réfléchissantes et la texture, qui se combinent pour révéler l’essence de la pierre. Le travail lapidaire implique de travailler avec cette essence et l’histoire que la pierre essaie de raconter afin de révéler sa beauté et de trouver le bon design pour la montrer.

Je vends mon travail dans des foires artisanales à travers le Midwest depuis près de dix ans et je suis membre d’Indiana Artisan (l’organisation de marque de l’État de l’Indiana pour l’artisanat de qualité exceptionnelle) et d’Art IN Hand (une galerie dirigée par un artiste membre). Je prends toujours des cours, j’apprends de nouvelles compétences et je cherche à faire évoluer mon art et mon savoir-faire. Je suis également particulièrement fier de dire que je suis un artiste enseignant offrant des cours de conception de bijoux et de travail lapidaire dans une variété d’endroits, y compris l’Indianapolis Art Center, William Holland Lapidary School et Wildacres Retreat (pour la Eastern and Southeastern Rock and Gem Federation). Partager ma passion pour les bijoux avec les étudiants a ouvert une voie inattendue et profondément enrichissante de redonner et de partager au sein de la communauté artistique. Pour moi, mon parcours en tant qu’artiste a été aussi gratifiant que d’atteindre la destination.

My intent as a craftsperson is to create innovative designs executed with the highest quality craftsmanship. It is my goal to continually raise the bar, in terms of my skill set, design capabilities, and craftsmanship in order to create uniquely stunning jewelry that you’ll be proud to wear. I particularly love learning techniques that are fading from use and bringing back their lost art, as well as calling attention to under-utilized stones, minerals and fossils.

For as long as I can remember I’ve been fascinated by form and design. I love antiques and period buildings, admire and collect artwork of all kinds, and have a background in interior design and fashion merchandising. Jewelry design actually started as a hobby for me before becoming my passion and then my profession.

I am both a metalsmith working predominately in silver and gold and a lapidary artist, cutting and polishing all the stones I use in my designs. The cutting and inlay of unusual stones, intarsia (creating a pattern of cut stone), and hand-forged and spool knit chains are all signatures of my work. I strive for simple clean design lines that serve to bring the stones to prominence, giving them a sense of power and drama.

Taking an idea I see in my head and making it come to life as a thing of beauty is deeply rewarding to me. Or taking a “rock” (gemstone/fossil/mineral) in its raw form as produced by nature (already beautiful), then cutting, grinding, and polishing it to create a gorgeous piece of art in its own right, is rewarding to my soul. Each stone has its own inherent strengths, including depth of color, reflective properties, and texture, that combine to reveal the essence of the stone. Lapidary work involves working with this essence and the story the stone is trying to tell in order to reveal its beauty and find the right design to show it off.

I have been selling my work at craft fairs throughout the Midwest for almost ten years, and am a member of Indiana Artisan (the state of Indiana’s branding organization for exceptional quality craft), and Art IN Hand (an artist member run gallery). I am always taking classes, learning new skills and seeking to evolve my art and craftsmanship. I am also particularly proud to say I am a teaching artist offering classes in jewelry design and lapidary work in a variety of locations including The Indianapolis Art Center, William Holland Lapidary School, and Wildacres Retreat (for the Eastern and Southeastern Rock and Gem Federation). Sharing my passion for jewelry with students has opened up an unexpected and deeply rewarding path of giving back and sharing within the artistic community. For me, my journey as an artist has been as gratifying as reaching the destination.
