I'm Kelly, the shop owner. I'm the gal who makes most of the things you see here except for any vintage items that I may find of interest or items made by my husband, Jim. My husband specializes in hand drawing reproductions of medieval woodcuts onto wood and framing them. He also cuts wood for me to paint and create art on.
I love to make tons of things, but my favorites are painting acrylic on canvas, paper mache, wood, ceramic and other things. I am quite fond of making jewelry & candles as well. I started making candles back in 2006. I began my foray in to jewelry making in 2002, and I have been drawing and painting since I was a child.
I did sell my crafts occasionally on other sites, and even a few flea markets back in my warmer Florida days. I joined Etsy back in 2006 with the intent to sell my beeswax candles, but family life, and a big move from Florida to Pennsylvania took over for a few years . Back in 2012 I started painting paper mache skulls that have been admired by folks locally. In 2013 I started Dark Moon Bazaar, and began selling at local craft fairs and Pagan events as well as here on Etsy.
From my painted skulls and jewelry designs, to my Canvas Acrylic paintings and trinket boxes, all artistic designs are my own original ideas.
I have been a Witch and Practicing Pagan for over a decade. I dedicated myself to a Pagan path in 2002, and it has been a wonderful journey. I have been deeply involved in my Local Pagan communities in both Florida and here in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Currently, personal and family life requirements and commitments have evolved to need more of my time. So,in response, I have focused on a more solitary path and have scaled back my multitude of community activities. In doing this, I have been able to bring more balance into my life, and have time to really focus on my shop. The creativity is beautifully flowing!!
While the items I offer here are not all Pagan oriented, many are, and have deep magickal meaning to me, and I hope others will find purpose and meaning with my work. Each piece is special and symbolic.
Why the name "Dark Moon Bazaar?" I chose the name Dark Moon Bazaar to signify a new beginning in my life, as the dark moon is a threshold period associated with endings and new beginnings. It is the time of the changing from Crone to Maiden. A time of introspection and the spark of things yet to come. That is how I felt when I was about to start things with Dark Moon Bazaar. I had just come off a dry period with no artistic inspiration...so that time in my life was ending, and a new vibrant, muse filled time in my life was beginning. A lot of introspection and thought went into what I was doing, a passion, a spark, the hope and thrill of a new beginning.
