Earth's Treasures with Profound Meaning
After meeting, we soon learned that we shared many of the same passions, especially the most important ones- our faith, family, nature, travel, and great food and wine. Though we love exploring and experiencing new places and cultures, we mostly value being at home, enjoying the comforts that we have collected and created. We hope you see these passions reflected in our products and designs and the overall concept of our company! We founded our company based on the core concepts of reuse, recycle, re-purpose and “re-mean”....That as artists we should utilize what the earth has given us, and when possible, combine them with existing items to create treasures that possess new meaning!
We categorize and identify our items based on their elemental order using both the Classical Life Elements as well as Design Elements: Wood, Earth, Fire, Metal, Wind/Air, Water. Each product category will bring different sensations and moods to you and your environment and are best when combined and balanced with products from other categories. Adding one of our wood lamps as example, to a shiny metal and glass table provides the perfect balance of light, textures and shapes.
Hugh was born in Tennessee, and has lived his whole life in the south - North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia and now Texas. He loves the south; the people, the culture, its beauty and especially the food! Having traveled extensively both near and far, he recently commented, " I've enjoyed the cultures and the great people I've met throughout my travels, but, my heart belongs to the south".
His design approach is simple - use the essence of the element you create with and let it express its beauty. We both truly love wood and rocks. Both mediums possess similar qualities yet very different ones as well. Yet their rough or finished textures, natural shapes, range of color pallet, density, and flexibility are endlessly fascinating.
Deb on the other hand is a Yankee! Born in Western New York and lived throughout the Central and Upstate regions, she is very appreciative of how fortunate she was to be raised in such a beautiful area. A nature lover from birth, she too has traveled extensively and is proud of what this great country has to offer, but being able to experience other cultures and peoples has both made her yearn for more as well as love being at home. She has been living in the south including Arizona, Florida and Texas for over 15 years.
Bois d' Arc (Osage Orange) is Hugh's WOOD of choice. You rarely see it used except in bows, bowls, tool or knife handles and pens. It is VERY hard and sparks literally fly when he cuts it with his chainsaw. It is resistant to insects and rot. The color is absolutely amazing - yellow, amber, golden brown and dark brown. Oftentimes it has chatoyance, (tiger eye effect) which is astonishing. And when finished the wood is silky smooth yet has everlasting durability. Our wood boards are meant to be USED! It will only enhance the beauty of the piece!
And then there is ROCK! This wondrous treasure of the EARTH is simply amazing and diverse in so many ways. As this is one of our favorites, we have an extensive product line made from ROCK. Our most popular in the category is our Himalayan Salt products. Whether as a cooking or serving aid, air purifier, soothing lighting designs or for soaking away the day's challenges, Himalayan Rock Salt is Health and Wellness epitomized! 250 Million years in the making, hidden deep within the Himalayan Mountains, tucked safely away from pollutants, this beautiful salt crystal goes through none of the over-processing of typical commercial table salt. It possesses 84 minerals and trace elements and has a natural gorgeous pink color. We offer a host of Himalayan Salt products and are making more all of the time, so please check back often!
New to our EARTH category is our newly designed line of natural stone items. Crafted from the finest and most exotic marble, onyx, quartz, travertine and quartzite materials; the line includes slabs, mortar and pestles, salt boxes, trays and plates. Ranging in size, shape and features, these products all have multiple purposes and uses. The smaller shaped pieces are great for trivets, wine coasters, plant and candle plates and make great centerpieces!! The larger ones have coordinating handles and footings and can go seamlessly from room to room and multitude uses.
We are currently in the planning phase of combining our EARTH lines of Himalayan Salt and Natural Stone Serve Wear with our Bois D'Arc WOOD items for even greater functionality and value! STAY TUNED!
