When medicated creams and ointments did not help.
When my daughter began having skin problems and the doctor couldn't figure out why. I knew I had to do something. I started paying attention to everything she put on her skin, after a short while, I had a long list of items that caused reactions in her skin. With that list in hand, I looked up every ingredient listed on the labels of the products that she was reacting to now. These ingredients are chemicals included in her bath and body products for suds, color, gelling or smoother flow of liquids. I found out these chemicals are in everything! Baby wash, baby bubbles, soaps, shampoo's, conditioner's... I wasn't aware that the chemicals, big companies used to make their products look better, be prettier or be cheaper, could be harmful to us or that they could build up in the body and make us sick. Heck, I didn't even know that some things we put on our skin, can be absorbed into the bloodstream.
In my research, what I found was so alarming, we started making our own skincare products, with all natural ingredients... herbs and botanicals grown from organic dirt, no pesticides, no inorganic fertilizers.
We created Olive oil soap with Tea Tree oil in it first.
The olive oil soothed her skin and the tea tree oil acted as an antibacterial agent allowing her skin to heal itself.
After a couple of days she didn't feel as itchy and the breakout spots seemed to be healing. With regular use, her skin cleared up and is now, beautiful and healthy.
A couple of weeks after she started using the castile soap , she said "Mom, you need to make me a shampoo." More research and then, We made shampoo bars, they worked so well, and helped so much, (are portable without spills and smell so good) that I started using them too. (We have refined the recipes for her shampoo bars and she uses the Naked oats soap/unscented for sensitive skin.)
Thus began my affair with all things natural, healthy and "back to basics" pure.
After all the testing and sampling, spilling and figuring, and sampling some more, I'm ready to share some with others.
