I love ceramic pieces which are beautiful in their own right - but I have a particular admiration for functionally beautiful objects.
Every aspect of the work I do myself, and every piece is unique. I enjoy creating small imperfections - curves and uneven edges, which compliment a natural, minimalist style.
I strive to create a textural and colour contrast in the ceramics, and also to use stains which (even during the making process) instil a sense of calm. Thus, rather selfishly I admit that I relish the creative process a little more than the (final) product itself.
Pottery has a notoriously un-predictive element which makes it so exciting and rewarding.
When making plates and bowls I use moulds and porcelain slip. However, my methods are unorthodox in that I like to caress the slip around the mould by hand, rather than by pouring and waiting. I am somewhat impatient and getting covered in clay is most definitely part of the fun!
