Art is my healing
I started drawing when I was five years old.
I remember my dad encouraging me to create my own ideas and to not draw the same things every other kid was. I wanted to fit in, but he told me I was creative on my own. Even now, I still struggle with comparing myself to others, but I always go back to that day when I need to remind myself of my value as an artist.
In high school, I wanted to draw people more. I find the human body the most beautiful creation, and I want to capture the emotion and language in the forms I paint. My mom helped me work towards my goal in improving and learning more. She sent me to art camp every year of high school until I graduated, and she bought me a Wacom tablet because I was obsessed with digital art at the time.
I went to college and went through the art program for four years, but I never completed it. At the time, I went through a difficult situation and lost my passion for art. The relationship I was in proved toxic, and I questioned everything I created due to the constant ridicule I received from my partner at the time. I moved on to work in the mental health field, and in 2017 I lost what felt like everything.
My whole life changed, and I didn't know what to do with my trauma and volatile emotions. Through the help of my parents and my now husband, I was able to receive the healing I needed. Over time of finding myself again, I also found my love for art again. It was no longer a chore, or something that I would be made fun of. It was my therapy, and it's how I create images that bring me joy.
I want to give others joy, even if it's something simple as liking cute mushroom stickers that I made. I also want to continue to learn and grow as an artist, and help and encourage others to follow their dreams and to not give up like I almost did.
Thank you for being a part of my art journey.
