Once upon a time, there was a beautiful little house. It seemed like at least a hundred Eucalyptus trees and native bushes speckled the surrounding property. Black cockatoos would come and strip the trees leaving a mess of branches and gumnuts all over the place. One day, a creative and slightly annoyed woman gathered the gumnuts and began crafting mobiles and nature stamps from them, incorporating items like little felt leaves and various designs.
Hello! I’m Kathleen, the creative and slightly annoyed woman from the story. I’m also the founder and resident crafter of Global Gumnuts & Nursery. That first mobile was back in 2016. I dabbled for a while, making them as more of a hobby and as a way to prevent rolling my ankle on those nuisances. Just five years ago I decided to give it a real go. Things have been in full swing ever since!
Inspired by my own little ones, I have since expanded the range of baubles and playthings to include loose parts, education resources, musical instruments etc, such as those you would use in the Emilia Reggio and Montessori Approach. I also find inspiration in the natural materials themselves; there’s just something about the raw material I find so beautiful. So, many of my products are left unfinished to highlight their natural beauty. Wooden creations are the crutch of our Store!
Since the expansion, Global Gumnuts has gotten a whole lot more… well, global! We carry a broad range of products sourced globally, including some wholesale items. You’ll also find locally handmade items and, of course, items made by yours truly.
When I’m not gathering leaves and gumnuts or crafting away in the studio, you’ll find me playing with my two little ones. I’m a bit of a homebody but I’m https://www.etsy.com/images/shop/about/ShopAbout_VideoThumb.pngalways buzzing about. It’s not uncommon to find me working on a few different projects at one time.
Thanks for stopping by and getting to know me. The fun doesn’t stop here. Find me on Instagram - it’s a nonstop gumnut party!
My business and native bush-land is grown on Whadjuk Noongar Country. I pay my respect to the Whadjuk Noongar People as the traditional Custodians of this land. I also promise to educate my children to the best of my knowledge about Aboriginal traditions. I recognise their continuing connection to land, water and community. We pay respect to Elders past and present.
