Becoming the Fairytale
I have always been passionate about beautiful and unusual jewellery. I noticed it when I saw illustrations of queens and fairy godmothers in books, or watched films where the costume and jewellery became more than just props - they told us about the character, they told a story.
I believe that story is so important. I want my jewellery designs to have a back-story, to have character. Maybe it could have been washed up on the shore - a mermaid's lost trinket, taken from the hoard of an ancient dragon; or something sparkly that once was a gift to a dark fairy Queen.
Everything I make is made from raw sheet and wire (with very rarely a bought finding or setting); the designs all sketched out in my own fairytale book and made at my handmade bench.
From humble beginnings, sitting on the floor in my living room, I have now made my own workbench and amassed a plethora of tools and materials. I work in a corner of my house, out in the conservatory. A little space enclosed in on three sides, where all time seems to stop when I sit down to create something.
My designs are always evolving and I am always learning. There is always something new just waiting to be created, and my own, happy ever after, is getting to make it.
