Frequently asked questions

What is argillite?

Argillite stone has been carved since the early 1800's by the Haida people and is only found on Haida Gwaii. Argillite is black stone with a very fine grain known worldwide by Native art collectors for its ability to be carved into intricate works of art and jewelry. The argillite carvings we carry are made from argillite sourced from one remote mountain-top on Haida Gwaii and is exclusively carved by artists of Haida descent.
