I love helping hamsters!
My hamster Flamey was my first pet in years. Having rented for years I wasn't allowed pets, but as soon as that restriction was lifted I started looking for a furry companion. A lady in my village was trying to re-home her 4 month old dwarf hamster, I thought how hard can it be to look after a hamster, and I picked him up.
A few months later and I've learned that looking after hamsters isn't easy. They require a lot more love, care, space and enrichment than you'd think. Sadly, a lot of people aren't aware of their needs and many hamsters go on to live sad lives.
I set up hamster helper for a few reasons. Firstly because I couldn't find the kind of products I wanted online anywhere. Flamey being my first, I didn't really want to go and buy a 10lb bag of sand just to see if he got on with it. I wanted to try lots of different substrates and enrichment ideas without paying a lot of money or having to deal with a lot of volume. So on Hamster helper, I try to offer things that you can use as a taster with your hamsters.
Also in the time I've had Flamey I have fallen in love. Not just with him, but every hamster, I want them all to have better lives and I want to help raise awareness of their needs so hamsters everywhere can live better lives. So I donate 10% of my profits to hamster rescue centres all over the country in the hopes of helping other hamsters.
When Flamey passed away in 2024 I was absolutely heartbroken, but the legacy he left behind is absolutely incredible. Over £700 donated to hamster charities, so many hamster safe products created and Hamster Helper is growing because it's loved by so many people who want to know that what they're buying for their hamster is safe.
In 2025 I was joined by Sylvie. She's an adorable dwarf hybrid rescue hamster who's going to help start the next chapter of Hamster Helper.
