Keel & Charter started with a simple frustration. Too many templates look nice in a preview and then fall apart the first time you use them for real work. Formulas break, tabs do not talk to each other, and you end up rebuilding the whole thing yourself.
Every Keel & Charter template is designed by a consultant who builds business systems professionally. That background shapes how each file is made. We start with the job the template needs to do, then plan the structure: where data goes in, how it flows between tabs, and what you need to see at a glance. Only then do we build the dashboards, dropdowns and automatic calculations on top.
The shop began with data governance templates for teams that need to document, own and measure their data. Those are still here. We have since expanded into everyday spreadsheets that use the same careful structure: tracking small business finances, managing projects with a Gantt timeline, staying ahead of vendor contract renewals, planning a monthly budget, paying down debt, planning a wedding and keeping inventory in order.
The name says what we care about. A keel keeps a boat steady. A charter sets the course. Our goal is to give you a steady structure and a clear plan, so you can spend less time fighting a spreadsheet and more time using it.
Behind the scenes, each template comes together in stages. We draft the structure, build the formulas, fill it with example data to see it working, and then review how it reads to someone opening it for the first time. Instructions are written in plain language, and the files are built to open in Excel and Google Sheets.
