A refreshing alternative to the big box store pet collars.
Hi, I’m Leslie! Welcome to my corner of Etsy. Made By Cleo started in 2012 as a one-woman operation and a labor of love out of my home office. Today, Made By Cleo is run by a team of 14 skilled artisans who live and breathe all things cat.
Like most businesses, Made By Cleo started with two things: a problem and a passion. My very first cat, Cleo, provided both. Cleo himself wasn’t the problem — not at all. This adventurous scamp was the apple of my eye and my daily companion for nearly 20 years. He was also the ultimate outdoor cat (when he wasn’t inside snuggling and being the perfect lap cat). Fiercely independent and often getting himself into trouble (from our perspective at least), Cleo would show up at home after a day out in the neighborhood happily exhausted, hungry, and, more times than I can count, without his collar.
Every time he lost his collar, I rushed to the pet store for a replacement, and every time, I was disappointed. There were entire aisles of options for dogs, yet only 3-5 collars specifically for cats. The worst part was these collars weren’t made of quality materials; fraying up and getting fuzzy almost immediately. I felt bad putting something that looked so shabby onto my beloved Cleo. It’s no wonder he shed them as quickly as *feline-ly* possible.
So that was the problem. Now for the passion. As someone with a professional design background, I always had an eye for working with color, pattern and textiles. I also knew how to sew (you see where this is going!). I decided to take matters into my own hands (literally) and make a collar for Cleo that would not only be durable enough to hold up to whatever cat antics he got into next but also stylish enough to properly represent his personality.
After making a few of my own, I realized there were likely other pet owners who, like me, wanted well-made, quality pet collars that would act as an identifier for their cherished fur children and at the same time, a style statement that did justice to their particular personalities and “cattitude.”
And so, Made By Cleo was born.
Thousands of collective hours have gone into research, development & production for the many products we proudly make at Made By Cleo. Not only that, as of this writing, almost 10 years of iterative refinements have been made to our materials and process as we've grown and learned along the way. While the huge range of styles has always set us apart, quality is also a major differentiator and always our highest priority. (Not to mention, we're also fast)!
