Miscreation: The Process of Creating Through Failure and Growth
Disc sports are everything to me. No matter where I've gone or what I've done both Ultimate Frisbee and Disc Golf have been an integral part of my life for nearly a decade. But disc dyeing didn't start until just recently.
This all started as a YouTube dive. I saw a guy at a local disc golf course bust out a sweet looking dyed distance driver and I thought to myself: "Hell, I can probably do that". Thousands of hours later and with a lot of support from friends, family and total strangers I have finally made Miscreation Dyes a formal project!
I didn't start this brand as a way to make big money or as a secondary source of income, but rather as a way to support the sports and community I have come to love so much, and to shed some light on the reality of creative failure and the joys of accidental creation.
In the digital age it is all too easy to create a perfect persona and a world of flawless imagery and design. And while that isn't inherently problematic, I prefer the honest approach to creativity. Which is to say that most all creative efforts are failures to some extent. For every gorgeous photograph there are 100 throw-aways; for every comedic scene in a movie there are 45 bloopers behind the scenes that played into making it happen; and for every disc I dye that looks clean and intentional there are at least 10 that look a bit haphazard. But just because I didn't make exactly what I set out to make, does that mean I failed? Or rather did I miscreate something entirely different but altogether still mine? herein lies the joy of Miscreation!
This brand is all about the goof-ups, misfits and oddballs! I want to celebrate creative mishaps and as the brand grows and the project progresses I hope to sell at extreme discount many of my dud dyes and giveaway a ton as well! We are all the products of our mistakes and I know I'm not the only one who's here for it =} Welcome to the world of Miscreation, won't you please come along with me for this journey!
