Nancy Faye Designs (formerly known as Urban Afrique) is a San Francisco bay area-based, minority-owned business that sells handmade jewelry made from unusual stones and beads from around the world to create one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry.

Turquoise and amber speak to the soul and restore balance energy levels in the body. Nancy Faye Designs blends these two stones to evoke the power of her African and Black Indian heritage.

Nancy Faye Designs mixes amber, jade, carnelian, ametrine, lapiz lazuli, onyx, agate, jasper, shell, tiger's eye, trade beads and more. Some stones and beads are flat, round, faceted, oval, square, hexagonal, rough, smoothe. Add sterling accents or spacers and, WOW!, you have an awesome piece of jewelry.

Nancy Faye Designs

In 1993, local jewelry artist and owner Nancy F. Johnson travelled to West Africa. Before the trip she began to study African Trade beads and amber. In the motherland she found incredible finds. Upon returning she began to create jewelry that spoke of her travels and the unique qualities of African stones and amber. She found herself mixing her West African roots with her Black Indian roots; the results were bold necklaces of amber, trade beads, turquoise and coral.

Her designs are so striking that women request custom pieces, and sometimes buy them off of her neck.

Demand has grown and so has Nancy Faye Designs. Thirty years later, and after the COVID shutdown, Nancy Faye Designs has reinvented itself to become a thriving home-based company with a loyal following.

Nancy F. Johnson is owner and chief designer at Nancy Faye Designs. She founded Nancy Faye Designs in 1993. Her designs have been sold at the MOAD gift shop, Art and Soul Festival, numerous festivals in the Bay Area, and in Morocco.
