Frequently asked questions

What are the dimensions of this patch?

The dimensions are listed in about the middle of each listing description, usually at the end of the main paragraph. I plan on updating the dimensions on all my listings to include width and height identifiers for more clarity. Please message me if you would like more clarification on a specific patch's dimensions.

Do you combine shipping if I buy more than one item?

Yes, orders with multiple items should automatically be one shipment. If you open a separate order, I will generally combine them at shipment and refund you the extra cost for one of the order’s shipping, unless asked to ship separately.

Why do you charge extra for iron-on backing?

Short answer, I charge $1 extra for iron on backing due to materials and extra steps in the process.

Long answer, I stitch patches intended for IO backing at slightly tighter tensions so that the backs of the patches are flat for the best possible adhesion to the backing; this puts me and my machine under a bit of pressure! I trim the fabric and stabilizer as normal, and use tape to pull up any spare thread (lint) from the back from the trimming process. Finally I trace and cut the IO backing to the exact shape of the patch minus 1/16” - 1/8”, and iron it onto the patch.

Will I need to stitch this patch on, even if I choose iron-on backing?

The iron-on backing I use (Heat’n’Bond) is not necessarily rated for permanent adhesion, but some people may get that result. It is excellent for basting the patch to your material so that it stays in place while you stitch it on, and I've personally had great experiences with it.

I recommend stitching the patch on using a sturdy needle and thimble, for lifelong security. Permanence (without security stitches) depends on the material of the item you’re ironing the patch onto, and how much it flexes and moves. The adhesive does not stick well to leather or materials with high concentration of plastic, like nylon.

Can you change the colors around on this patch?

Yes, I probably can! What’s great about embroidery is you can change the colors to make it special. Some people may want a different fabric color or, for example, the border of a patch to be a different color, to match their project. This is usually pretty simply done by stopping the machine and switching the spool, but too much color customization may not be possible with certain designs. Just send me a message with your request including a picture of the color, and I will get back to you with thread color options I have on hand.

Can you make a custom patch for me from scratch?

Yep! Just send me a message with the details and a picture. I’ve done multiple custom patches for customers, and I've learned my way around an embroidery program called Embrilliance. I charge a flat $25 fee (on top of the patch price) for digitization, subsequent testing of the design, materials used, and my time. $30 if you’d like to keep the embroidery file for your own personal or business use. (I will also remain available to you in case you need me to adjust parts of the design or any troubleshooting you may need help with).

I cannot guarantee I will be able to fulfill your custom request, and I reserve the right to pass on your request based on my availability, the difficulty of design, and/or the limits of the program.

Do you offer a discount for bulk orders?

Yes, I can offer you a discount for orders of 10+ items. Please send me a message here on Etsy beforehand!
