cool stuff made from used bike parts
During visits to Portland, OR Patrick McMahon was impressed by not just the bicycle facilities, but the bike culture that was evolving, complete with a craft products made for bicyclists and with bike parts. These included a "beer view mirror" made by Ben Salzberg (which he kindly helped other folks learn how to make).
During a break in between jobs as a bicycle planner in 2013, Patrick (urged on by his wife tired of all the bottle caps and bike parts sitting around their house) decided to finally get around to making some cool stuff out of the stuff he had around and was able to get from the recycling bins of local Baltimore bike shops.
Over time, ReBcycle has grown and evolved with Etsy sales throughout the US and to several other countries, displays at Baltimore bike shops, and occasional craft fairs around Maryland. Patrick focuses on making the "Beer View Mirrors" and bicycle chain products while Meg Stoltzfus made necklaces and earrings. The product line has mostly shifted back to bicycling mirrors and we're grateful for the support of our customers over more than a decade.
