About Me
My family emigrated to the United States from Europe following World War II. My grandparents settled in New York. My grandfather, Eric Spencer, worked as a waiter and on the side, he would buy broken watches, refurbish them, and sell them. He turned that watch business into a very successful jewelry business on the Bowery in NYC. He and my grandmother, Liesel, operated Spencer Rings for 40 years. Upon graduating high school, my grandfather knew I wasn't going to college (it just wasn't for me) but made sure I learned a trade. He set up my first apprenticeship with a diamond setter. From there, I apprenticed with a few other diamond setters, learning different techniques from each one of them. In 1990, I opened up my own workshop. Every day I am grateful that my grandfather set up that first apprenticeship. I love what I do and take enormous pride in my work.
