Scottish Slate Gift was born by me Ema Davies with a little help from my partner Grant (+my 2 children and 2 doggies). We thought of the idea when looking for slate products to give as gifts to friends and family and we were disappointed in how most of the slate gifts were made outside the UK using an automated machine and then imported into this country.
Fast forward many years later our 2 children now help us in the business.
Given that Grant has around thirty years experience working with slate and I have a more crafty side, it seemed a good idea to combine both of our qualities to create high quality slate gifts that can be used inside your house and outside.
All our gifts are hand made by us in our workshop in the Scottish Borders, We don’t mass produce by using a machine; they are 100% handmade by us. We now produce many products using slate , metal , Acrylic and are adding to our range all of the time.
Slate is a fantastic material to work with as no two pieces are the same, but one thing each piece has in common are the slates we use are of a high quality, there are a huge range of slate available but we only use T1 and S1 quality slate for our gifts to give you our customer a quality end product.
Due to the cutting by hand there can be a variance in the sizes advertised but this is only in a few millimetres.
Please remember we don’t argue with nature and when you buy a natural product like slate it can come with natural mineral deposits like pyrites and marble veins , these are not faults as they have developed over the same period as the slate , this is what makes our products so special as you are buying something that has taken over 500million years to make, some people say money can’t buy time but this doesn’t apply to Slate because you can. Enjoy what nature has made.
We always over package our items and recycle anything to use as protection within the boxes to avoid any bumps and bruises. We have all our orders collected by courier and every item can be tracked to make sure your gifts arrive safely. We always try to have our orders out as swiftly as possible even at busy times, but normal delivery is usually about 3-5 weeks from proof being agreed with you.
