Hello and Welcome to "Spears Creations Store!"
We started our business in 2007, but things didn't really start to take off until 2016. That was the year that we got on Etsy, but it was also the year that we found our passion with our wood disk products.
A few years before, we had relocated our family to a beautiful 12 acre piece of property in the Finger Lakes area of New York state. Our new property is mostly wooded, and we soon realized that there were some very large hybrid poplar trees on the property that needed to come down, because they were too close to our house and outbuildings. During storms, we would watch them bend in the wind, the ground moving as the root systems barely held on.
We decided to learn all we could about these beautiful giants that were so abundant on our property. We learned that most poplar trees that grew in our area were related to the Lombardy poplar, but were now hybrids, crossed with other trees, like aspen, cottonwood and birch.
They are hardwood, but not good for heating. Most hybrid poplar is used for pulp production in paper plants, but it is also commonly used in furniture and other woodworking projects.
Once we took down our first tree, we quickly realized how amazing these trees were to work with. From a woodworking and artistic point of view, we believe that they are the perfect tree! They are strong, so they dry hard and straight, rarely cracking or checking. They also grow quickly, and we have started to plant new saplings, so our business can thrive for years to come.
We now have over 100 unique designs, which have shipped all over the country, and we are adding new designs often.
The very best part about our business is that we get to work together, at home, doing something that we truly enjoy.
