In Love with Linens
Wow, how did it all start?
My mom and all the other women in my family had incredible linen and towel collections. Most were handed down through the generations. Some of my family lived through two world wars and cultivated the art of thrift and mending. When sheets became frayed or socks bore holes, they were painstakingly mended.
I started visiting thrift stores several years ago and found that the fabric bins held a treasure trove of doilies, napkins, towels, tablecloths. Most were stained, wrinkled and unloved. Many bore elaborate monograms and fabulous needlework. They were the result someones hard work and talent and I couldn't bare to leave them for use as rags. That's how it started. My collection grew and grew and grew. Now I'm obsessed.
I'm not an expert, I just know what I like. There's nothing finer than to sit down at a table that has been decked with a fresh table cloth and a napkin. I love nothing better that when washing my hands, finding a nice crisp guest towel to dry off with.
Passing on the love is my goal. So, ditch the paper and start your own collection!
