The Art & Material Behind the Glow
The Story of Lumen & Plank: Where Sustainable Wood Meets Hand-Dyed Light
At Lumen & Plank, we believe that home lighting should do more than just illuminate a room—it should create an atmosphere, tell a visual story, and respect the planet. Born out of a passion for clean woodworking and vibrant, organic textures, our holiday collection brings intricate silhouettes to life through a delicate balance of shadow and color.
Conscious Materials from Core to Canopy
Every single nightlight, tealight, and table lamp begins with a commitment to environmental safety and exceptional quality. We hand-select premium American hardwood plywood featuring PureBond® cores. Because these sustainably managed woods are assembled using a revolutionary, formaldehyde-free soy glue, they are entirely safe for your family, your pets, and your indoor air quality. We never compromise on the health of your home or the earth.
A Collaboration of Color: Hand-Dyed Thai Mulberry Paper
The magic of a Lumen & Plank piece truly happens when the light turns on. To achieve our signature, organic glow, we line each precision-cut wood panel with a combination of structural flex backing and premium Thai mulberry paper.
While we focus our artistry on designing and cutting the wood silhouettes, we proudly partner with a local specialty shop to source our paper. Each sheet is beautifully hand-dyed by local artisans, ensuring that no two lamps diffuse light in exactly the same way. The natural fibers embedded in the mulberry paper create a stunning, multi-tonal texture that perfectly mimics the organic beauty of the natural world.
Designed to Warm Your Spaces
From cozy bedside nightlights to striking tabletop statement pieces, our collection features 30 distinct artistic panels—spanning coastal wildlife, botanical florals, and timeless geometric patterns. When you bring a Lumen & Plank piece into your home, you aren’t just buying a lamp; you are investing in a carefully engineered, ethically crafted piece of functional art designed to cast a warm, comforting spell over your favorite spaces all season long.
