Hello! I'm Tera, the artist and maker behind The Sterling Muse.
The shop grew out of my love for art, metalsmithing, symbolism, and especially opal jewelry. The Sterling Muse grew out of my love for art, metalsmithing, symbolism, and especially opal jewelry.
I spent many years teaching Art and Special Education in grades K–12 and studied both Education and Mixed Media Studio Art before turning jewelry making into my full-time career.
I also create science-inspired jewelry through my sister shop, Molecular Motifs, while The Sterling Muse is where I focus on opals, symbolism, music, and more traditional forms of meaningful jewelry.
Fire opals became a defining part of The Sterling Muse because I love the way they shift with the light, flashing red, orange, green, blue, and gold from different angles. I especially love pairing that color with sterling silver, which lets the opal stay at the center of the design.
Most of my collection is built around fire opals, from simple everyday studs to necklaces and more symbolic designs. I also make pieces inspired by Celtic imagery, music, and other meaningful symbols, and I love working fire opal into those designs!
Every piece is designed and handcrafted by me in my workshop. Some are made to order, while others are one of a kind and photographed individually.
