The Story Behind Tierra Colours & Prints
Hello, and welcome to Tierra Colours & Prints.
I'm Ayse, a printmaker based in the beautiful city of Barcelona, where I create original hand-pulled relief prints inspired by nature, history, quiet moments, and the beauty of everyday life. My sketchbook is filled with ideas gathered from walks, old buildings, botanical forms, meaningful symbols, and the simple moments that often inspire the best stories.
I studied printmaking at the Cambridge School of Art, where I explored a wide range of traditional printmaking techniques before discovering my true passion for relief printing. I was immediately drawn to its tactile nature—the quiet rhythm of carving, inking, and pulling each print by hand.
Like many artists, my creative journey hasn't followed a straight path. As a single mum, much of my time and energy was devoted to raising my wonderful son, and for several years my printmaking tools were carefully packed away while I embraced the equally important adventure of motherhood.
Now, as he's growing older and becoming more independent, I've returned to printmaking with renewed inspiration, fresh ideas, and an even deeper appreciation for the slow, mindful process of creating by hand. In many ways, it feels like coming home.
The name Tierra Colours & Prints is deeply personal to me. I chose it in honour of my son, Tierra, who has been the greatest inspiration in my life. Becoming his mum taught me patience, resilience, and the importance of finding beauty in the everyday. Although motherhood meant stepping away from printmaking for a time, it also shaped the artist I am today. Every print I create carries a little of that journey, making this shop as much a celebration of family as it is of creativity.
Every design begins as a simple sketch before being carefully carved, inked, and printed by hand in small editions using traditional relief printing techniques. Because each print is individually hand-pulled, no two impressions are ever exactly the same. These subtle variations are not imperfections—they are part of the beauty and authenticity of handmade printmaking, making every piece truly one of a kind.
Each print is hand signed, carefully packaged, and created with love in my Barcelona studio.
