The Creator?
I'm a young, brown, queer woman with BPD, and an art historian by training - I studied and researched art for years before I started Toast Studio. Four years ago I wanted to take that formal knowledge and pair it with something more practical, so I started the studio: small-batch, functional ceramics made in Birmingham.
Everything here runs on the same three things: accessibility, sustainability, and making space for self-expression - mine included, which tends to come out a bit dark, a bit sarcastic, and occasionally NSFW. I work mainly in hand-building and slip casting, and I try to waste as little as possible along the way; off-cuts and test pieces get reused or repurposed rather than binned. I also try to keep pieces at accessible price points, because handmade shouldn't automatically mean out of reach.
Olive Dog, our studio assistance dog in training, is usually around too.
Outside the studio we trade at maker's markets across the UK, including Salads Day and FarGo - always good to meet other makers and see what everyone else is up to.
