'I want to make pots in the sun'
'So Vikki, what do you want to do when you grow up?'
'I want to make pots in the sun' replied the 10 year old me.....
Well, I don't exactly make 'pots' and I'm certainly not 'in the sun' but I am doing something that I always wanted to do and love.
I have worked in the visual arts for over 25 years. My personal practice has perfected a contemporary twist on the traditional. In addition to my functional ceramics, I also create sculptural pieces which experiment with the balance of functional verses decorative. The aesthetic element and final presentation of my work is a high priority. I'm inspired by traditional ware, flora fauna and British wildlife. Sometimes I use flowers and leaves collected on my daily dog walks which I impress into clay or use as relief in my designs. My wildlife pencil drawings feature on work too as ceramic transfers.
My background is in Art Gallery Education and I have gained a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Ceramics and an MA in Museum Studies, but always favoured practical passion for making and teaching and went self employed with my ceramics in 2005. I live in semi-rural Wigan in Lancashire with my son Zachary and chihuahua Gia. I grow vegetables, foster hedgehogs and keep bees.
