My husband, Tim, and I have always believed that the most meaningful gifts are the ones that say, “I know you. I know what you love. And I chose this especially for you.”
That belief is really the heart behind everything we create.
Even the name Wesley Renee Designs is personal. “Wesley” is my husband’s middle name and “Renee” is mine. When we were trying to name our business, we combined the two and immediately felt it had the creative, artistic feel we were looking for.
Our creative journey together began in 2005 when we were trained by Norm and Ruth Dobbins in the traditional art of glass etching and carving through sandblasting. It was messy, dusty work that we affectionately called “the dirty art,” but we fell in love with what could be created by hand.
Sandblasting allowed us to go far beyond simple surface etching and create detailed, dimensional artwork in glass. More importantly, it taught us lessons that still guide our work today: take your time, pay attention to the details, respect your materials, and create something you would be proud to give to someone you love.
Over the years, our little business has continued to grow and evolve.
We expanded from etched glass into woodworking, laser engraving, full-color UV printing, personalized gifts, and keepsakes. Today, many of our designs are inspired by the things our customers and our own family love most: hunting, fishing, wildlife, the outdoors, family traditions, special occasions, and the people who make those moments meaningful.
Personalization has always been especially important to me.
There is something very different about giving someone a gift with their name, family name, favorite hobby, passion, or special memory incorporated into the design. It becomes more than something that was simply purchased. It tells the recipient that you took the time to think about who they are and what matters to them.
I have spent much of my life making gifts or finding ways to make ordinary gifts feel more personal. Some of my favorite moments have been watching someone open a gift and realizing that it was created especially for them. That surprised smile, the tears, and the immediate need to show everyone else in the room are the moments I never get tired of.
That is the same feeling I want you to experience when you give one of our pieces.
Most of our products are created in our North Carolina workshop using a combination of woodworking, laser engraving, and UV printing. Because we work with natural materials such as wood, each piece has its own grain, character, and small variations. We think that is part of what makes handmade products special.
