Living a blessed life
I've made a living working in communications or public education, but have always enjoyed woodworking as a hobby. Now I'm retired and have more time to spend in my shop, working on whatever interests me. Mostly, I like making decorative boxes or other small items. I enjoy the challenges of creating a design, then figuring out the techniques to make it come together in an accurate, timely manner. I really enjoy the detail work needed on small objects. My late step-mother affectionately referred to me as the "most tedious person she knows", alluding to the efforts I take with details.
I've made a lot of gift items for family over the years and, thanks to my daughter, was finally talked into making items for sale to others. I've enjoyed the experience and plan to continue.
I don't spend all my time in the shop, though. I am an active member of a local Baptist church, sing in the church choir, and also with a group called "The Singing Men of East Texas". I've also spent two weeks (so far) helping with the rebuilding efforts following hurricane Harvey on the Gulf coast. I sometimes spend time at my daughter's in Dillon, CO, or with my son in Dallas. And the best is getting to spend almost every day with my wife of over 50 years
I recently expanded my old 14'x22' shop, adding about 180 sq ft to give me a bit more space for a CNC router and laser engraver.
