Unique home furnishings plus clothes for your American Girl and other 18-inch dolls
Say hello to WorkingDolls! My shop name comes from the ten 18" dolls that I bought specifically to work as dress forms, mannequins, and models. Thus, WorkingDolls!
I've been sewing off and on since I was 5 years old. I started making doll clothes for 18-inch dolls in 2017, when I wanted to experiment with sewing different styles. Dolls are wonderful to sew for, because they don't wiggle, they don't whine, and they don't say things like "Oh Mom, ruffles again? Really?" followed by an eloquent eye roll.
I recently started making cushions and pillows for my own needs, and when I realized how fun it was, I decided to add cushion and pillow covers to my shop.
Most of my materials are sourced from FabMo (FabMo.org), a wonderful organization that rescues designer materials, such as upholstery fabric samples, from interior design showrooms in San Francisco. They also receive fabric and other donations from clothing manufacturers and others around the San Francisco Bay Area.
My daughter recently joined me in making items for the shop. She and I personally sew all the items in the shop. We generally don't like to make the same item over and over, and usually we can only get very small amounts of a given fabric from FabMo, so most of our items are one of a kind! We work in our smoke-free, dog-friendly home, where my stacks and bins of unusual fabrics and trims keep me constantly inspired!
