Hello and welcome to Zadok Yehuda Artisan Jewelry.
For 30 years, I owned a gallery in the designer’s quarter of Tel Aviv but recently moved my entire operation to Jerusalem (the city of gold) to be closer to my home and studio.
I began my creative career as a photographer but a chance meeting with a local goldsmith on a trip to Everest ignited a passion for jewelry design. The goldsmith and I became fast friends and I started making jewelry with him just for fun. You could say that this is where the spark of my passion for the craft was ignited. This spark led me on an artistic journey, traveling and learning ancient techniques all over the world which I took too quickly - as if it was in my blood. It turns out that it was.
Upon returning to Israel I discovered that my Grandfather, who happens to be my namesake, was part of a ten-generation tradition goldsmiths in my family, hailing from northern Iraq, once known as Assyria. Back in my grandfather’s day, jewelry served more than just an ornamental purpose in my family’s traditions. Other than making wedding adornments, the jewelers would make a special religious talisman. Instead of going to the doctor, people would go to the Rabbi. The Rabbi would write an inscription on a piece of parchment and send it to a goldsmith, making a talisman incorporating the prescribed symbol for spiritual, psychological, and medicinal healing.
This revelation really sealed the deal for my dedication to the craft.
My unique designs tend to showcase the raw material which has its own essence and personality whether it be gold, silver or precious stones. I’ve developed my own methods for crafting jewelry, which often involve looking back in time and reviving ancient techniques. Archeologists have even compared my work to artifacts found in ancient Jerusalem.
