Painting the places I go and the plants I love!
Botanical State of Mind is a 1-woman show run by me, Evelyn Coleman. I dream up, paint, print, and package everything you see!
I grew up painting and drawing, but Botanical State of Mind wasn't born until I was working my first job out of college. I was working as a naturalist in the Sonoma County Redwoods, and needed to learn about an ecosystem of plants that were completely different from the desert-loving plants I knew from LA. I got out my watercolors and ink pens and got to work memorizing the plants...
From then on, I started studying and painting as many plants as I could, and sharing them with others. I love hiking, traveling, backpacking and being outside. Painting in nature became an extension of those experiences. In 2023 I began dabbling also with landscapes and developing a new personal pointillism style for rendering landscapes.
My favorite thing about painting native plants and favorite places is the amount of connections I am able to make with others over shared loves. Places in nature and the plants that inhabit them can feel personal, nostalgic, and magical. I love that my artwork can create a spark of recognition in others and I look forward to continuing my art journey for years to come.
I currently live in Northern California with my husband and two small kids.
