I am a maker and I am learning every day.
To say I am a maker sounds simple, but it is truly who I am. Whether I am planting seeds in my front yard vegetable garden, whipping up some new concoction in my vitamix, or sitting down, pencil in hand, as I do most every day, I am always wanting to make something! The trick is to make something new that excites me.
So every day I am seeking out new places and learning new things. More often than not, this involves nothing more than cracking open a new book, searching the internet, or strolling around my neighborhood. It seems one doesn't have to travel far to discover and learn something new everyday!
When I first started to realize my own creativity and the potential that this filled in me, I was getting started on the sewing machine, making patterns and sewing hippy dresses! Before long I was using the tiniest of seed beeds to make jewelry and adornments. This evolved into my dabbling in metalsmithing and before long into stained glass work and building lamps and then light boxes.
Then I carved my first linoleum block. For me, printmaking is the thing that I love doing the most! I am now exploring screenprinting and love to be able to combine the two. I have a very small space in which to work, but I am loving making it work, surrounded by all the kids, chaos, construction and clutter that is our life right now.
