A few Important Years Condensed into a Small Story
Happy you’re here! Honestly, my story starts off rather generically. I was a kid who wanted to be an artist. It’s been a journey from then to where I am now, but I’m so thrilled to say I am pursuing that childhood dream!
In 2018, seventeen-year-old me decided that what she wanted most was to sell on this magical platform she heard of called Etsy. Prior to this realization, she had been drawing religiously on her brand new ipad pro and dabbling in setting up other online ecommerce shops (like Redbubble and Society 6) but had never experienced actually having to ship her own handmade products, deal with inventory, or streamline a production process. So Etsy felt like the real deal to her; She did all the research, dedicated her time and money, and before long started to make sales on her stickers! The stickers were easy enough to make, and a great starting point. She loved coming up with new designs, and then worked hard for a couple years building her shop on the side while finishing up high school.
After graduating, she started taking on more than she could handle at the time, trying to balance 2 jobs, college classes, and a part time business. She eventually had to put her shop on vacation to leave for basic training after she decided to join the military. Probably quite an unexpected detail in this story, just as it was an unexpected decision for her at the time.
Current day, twenty-three-year-old me is sitting here writing out my shop’s story as I attempt to not only pick up where I left off with my business, but also exceed everything I was doing before and grow my brand Doctor Scribble (a shop name I’ve stuck with since my sister and I's 15 year old child brains came up with it) into the best version of a small business it can be. I have felt so excited the past 4 months devoting all my time to doing exactly what I love and obsessing over how I’m going to make big things happen with my art. New products, my own website, wholesale...
I’m so grateful for the love and support from my fiancé for encouraging me to pursue what I love, and of course for everyone who has ever been a customer, left a review or a like, or voiced their love of my art to me. I can only imagine what other joys continuing down this path will bring to me.
