Drawn From My Brain
Hey, There! My name is Scott Mendenhall, and welcome to Drawn From My Brain!
I enjoy creating watercolor and ink pictures that make people smile, especially pieces that target specific interests that individuals can relate to, like cooking, pets, and nature. People often ask me, "where do you get your ideas?" The answer is always the same. "From my brain, I guess." Hence the name of my shop. Of course, it's not that simple... I'm a voracious reader, a TV junkie, and a general observer of life, so my brain has a lot to choose from!
I enjoy writing as much as drawing, so I'll usually incorporate words in my artwork. Sometimes the words are a narrative, sometimes they're a conversation, and sometimes they're mottos to live by. I like weird stuff, including Bigfoot, haiku poetry, quotes, science, and giving inanimate objects and animals a voice.
My creative process is simple:
1. Think up an idea while sitting in my big, comfy, writing chair.
2. Go downstairs to my studio and sketch it out in pencil on my watercolor pad.
3. Ink it.
4. Paint it.
5. Show it to the world!
I normally create pieces that are 8X10 inches, because they are a nice size for a gift, and are easy to mail. But I'll create other sizes as well.
I share my studio with four other friends-- a tortoise, two chinchillas, and a very, very old box turtle. Our upstairs neighbor is a 2-foot bearded dragon lizard named Howie. He looks like a dinosaur, but he's gentle as a lamb.
