Sewing is My Passion!
I've always been crafty, but sewing literally seemed as out of reach as rocket science to me for most of my life. It was having my first child and being severely low on cash that made me think, "Hmmm, maybe I could figure out how to make that expensive nursing cover myself instead of buying it from a big box store."
Luckily, my husband's grandma had been sewing for years, and she was willing to take on a 30-year-old rookie. I learned just enough to be annoying with the sewing machine:) I dabbled off and on for the next few years while our family grew. After investing in a sewing class in 2018, I made my first tote bag, and I was hooked!
It wasn't long before people took notice of my purses and bags and began suggesting I sell them. It was time to come up with a name for my Etsy shop. I'm a redhead (a redheaded stepchild, even!), so I love to poke at my status as a Ginger. Some of you may remember the singer Lulu who made "To Sir with Love" famous. For all kinds of reasons, this is a song that's dear to my heart and reminds of the man of who raised me, who chose to be my dad. This is how I came up with the name of Ginger Lu for my shop!
During the moments I'm not attached to my sewing machine (which can be hours and days, if I'm honest), I'm a high school English teacher, mother to three boys, wife, writer, and dog mom.
