Illustrated Paper Products for Dreamers
Hello there! My name is Jo Cheung and I'm an illustrator from Doncaster now living in north London. I make colourful and dreamy illustrations of animals and birds in fantastical and imaginary landscapes. In my work I try to convey my own interpretation of the natural world- be it slightly weird and wonderful! I am especially interested in the relationship between humans and animals, nature and wildlife and conservation.
I always knew I wanted to be an artist from a very young age. I was always doodling on bits of paper, making pop-up cards and I took a real interest in stationery and scrapbooking at one point. I used to collect stationery sets and whenever I went to Hong Kong I was always constantly on the hunt for sticker sets to add to my ever growing collection. For me, it was really fun but even at that age I really appreciated the love for writing letters- the tactility of it really appealed to it.
It was only until I went to college illustration was the natural direction for me to follow. I've always been flexible in my approach to making work so it seemed pretty natural to apply my artwork onto objects. I do think the collage approach was pretty much inspired by my early days of collecting paper and stickers, I still do it even now!
You will often find me hiding away in my studio at home or hanging out with my two cats, Mario and Toshka.
I hope you find something you'll like!
