It started on a float down the Mad River with friends. A few people had knitted drink sleeves — functional enough, but nothing Kim was impressed by. She looked at them and thought: I can make something much nicer than that for my friends.

She came home and started experimenting. Different wools, different patterns, different lengths, different felting times. She wasn't trying to start a business — she was just trying to get it right, the way she does with most things. Eventually she landed on something she was happy with and started bringing them as gifts.

People kept asking where to get one.

That's where this started.

Every Kaddy is made by Kim at our home in Stowe, Vermont — from choosing the wool to felting and shaping each one by hand. The felting is what makes it: a loose knitted tube goes into hot water and comes out dense, shaped, and surprisingly beautiful. Small batches. Each one hers.
