As a senior in high school, life is pretty hectic. I’ve always loved adding little doodles on my assignments and taking a few extra minutes to give my notes a little flair. But last year I realized, “Oh! I’m going to want to get a car soon. Wow, camp costs a lot of money. Uhm, I’m going to college before too long.” So I started to brainstorm ways I could make some cash while still balancing school, home life, church, piano practice, work, etc. One day my mom said, “Why don’t you try selling your calligraphy?” My first thought (being the perfectionist I am) was “Nah! I’m not good enough to try to sell my stuff. It’s only been for fun.” But I decided to give it a shot. I posted on Instagram that I was raising money for camp by selling custom hand lettering, and I had almost ten orders within two days from various family members and friends. Not too shabby! I mainly used my initial profits to buy more supplies. I started a second Instagram account, solely for lettering, and kept practicing.

With opening my own Etsy shop, I hope to encourage others to be creative. Even if you don’t think you’re good, give it a shot! It’s so rewarding.
