Handmade button jewellery from Ireland
Ever since playing happily with the contents of Granny's button box as a little girl, I've loved and collected all kinds of buttons. Over ten years ago now, I figured it was time to share some of them by making them into pretty little pieces of jewellery, and in 2009 I set up this little etsy shop. What began as an experiment is growing and growing 5 years later.
Some of the buttons I use in my pieces may be new, but more of them have already had a previous life on a jacket or dress from many years ago, and many come from fruitful rummagings in the button box I eventually inherited. I have reused the buttons from Irish military uniforms, wedding gowns, workshirts from the 1940s, and many dresses worn to dances in the 1960s and 1970s. Pretty cool!
In my other life, I teach art, eat cake, and dance swing.
