Joy is Resistance.
My artistic endeavors began 5 years ago, during the Covid-19 pandemic. Art helped me to find joy during one of the darkest times in my life. It was a light in that darkness.
I found that light while painting in my backyard on sunny days, but my style has changed dramatically over the years. I now find joy through digital art, using the program, Procreate, to design fun stickers and prints. My work is heavily inspired by nature, traditional tattoo, and current events.
Today, feels even darker than 2020. Our country is in turmoil. Trans-gender folks are being told that they don't exist, that there are only 2 genders. Our parks are being left vulnerable to neglect & our environment continues to suffer greatly. Women's bodily autonomy is being upheaved even further. Children are being ripped apart from their parents because of ICE. Federal employees, some of which are my close family, face termination because an un-elected person in power said their jobs were "wasteful". Our world is on fire.
I keep finding myself feeling so hopeless and so full of rage. But art continues to bring me peace through all of this. That is why I will be donating half the funds of every purchase to charities including Planned Parenthood, The National Parks Conservation Association, The Trevor Project & many others. This way we can fight against the Trump administration through joy, instead of hate.
Joy is resistance.
