KEEPING MEMORIES ALIVE WITH SCENTED CANDLES
My son, Travis, at the age of 28 passed away unexpectedly. Soon after his death, I began lighting a candle daily paying tribute to his beautiful life lived and assuring that his memory will not be forgotten. I became obsessed with burning candles and soon realized that I could be exposing my family to harmful toxins because I didn't always check to see what the candle was made with. I began to educate myself on candle making and began producing clean burning, non-toxic, and eco-friendly candles.
My candle making hobby quickly became my new passion or "purpose" if you will. I wanted to do this for Travis and about Travis. My branding is all about keeping memories alive with scents and based on the Proustian Effect - The power of scent to evoke memories and emotions.
At NICELYMADE CO. I hand pour luxury, eco-friendly wax into TIN vessels not only because they can be repurposed but Travis' nickname was the TINMAN due to the surgeries he underwent to repair his heart defect. As an adult, he was honored at an American Heart Association 5k walk and was asked to design a logo that represents who he was. With the help of a friend, they came up with the TINMAN logo. I use his TINMAN logo on my packaging. Lastly, I crafted two signature scents that remind me of Travis. The first scent is called HEAVENLY. This fragrance is angelic, clean with white florals. For every candle sold in this collection, a portion of the sale will be donated to THE AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION in Travis' memory. The second scent I created is DIRNDL & LEDERHOSEN. Travis favorite vacation was when he traveled with his father and cousin to Germany to attend the Oktoberfest in Munich. While there, he purchased a pair of Lederhosens. He not only wore the lederhosen at the Munich Oktoberfest but he had great fun wearing them in Columbus, OH! DIRNDLE & LEDERGOSEN is a smoky. masculine, cannabis scent with notes of leather, cedar, apples and warm spices. For every candle sold in this collection, a portion of the sale will be donated to THE EPILEPSY FOUNDATION in Travis' memory.
