5 out of 5 starsEven more stunning in person! I was so shocked when I first opened the box and saw it. I've already placed it into a ring so I can wear it and have part of St. Helens with me, my favorite place to visit.

It's pretty simple: I like rocks & gems. I like hunting for them, sifting for them, faceting & cutting them, tumbling them, even just staring at them. I always have! Most of all, I enjoy the times I spend with my kids & wife while we look for rocks.

My favorite times with our family (four boys!) are when we're out in nature, on a road trip, searching for shiny pretties-- aka rocks & gemstones. I'm not too into the demanding precision that faceting takes, so I'm quite happy that Joe is!

Why self-mined & hand faceted gemstones?
We focus on self-mined North American gemstones from small scale private mines. They're our passion. There is no greater pride for us than being able to source exactly where our stones have been; from the formation in this Earth, to the discovery by us, to the faceting within our own shop by Joe.
Very few gemstone providers can trace exactly where their gemstones have been & the number (or treatment & fair pay) of the people involved in their discovery & creation. That's where we're different-- we hope to reduce environmental or humanitarian injustices by urging people to consider locally sourced & faceted gemstones from small family businesses.
What does it mean in a listing if the gemstone locality is unknown?
People know we're rockhounds, & anyone that makes it known that they're rockhounds will end up receiving lots of rocks & gemstones from lots of people.
The majority of our unknown locality (origin) gemstone rough has been given to us by people that don't know what to do with their departed rockhound family member's rock collection-- we're talking boxes that have been sitting around in workshops or garages for many years, often for decades. Others have been gifted from various other friends & family members.
If we don't know exactly where rough was dug or sourced, we put "Locality: Unknown".
No matter where these rough gemstones originated from before we recieved them, all gemstones in our shop have been hand faceted by Joe Hughes.
