About Rachael (me!)
'rmbartill' (RMB + Art + Ill) is short for Rachael M. Broadwell Art & Illustration. This shop is my outlet for creativity. You'll find a wide array of styles, subjects, and media throughout my work because I am always trying new things. I love to explore my interests and ideas through art and illustration. I am continually pushing myself to develop my techniques and I see every project as an opportunity to become a better artist. I aim to be very flexible when working on custom / commissioned projects -- so if you like what you see in my shop, but want something a bit different from what you see in my listings, please message me! I've learned that my customers have brilliant ideas and this is a great way for me to grow as an artist.
A bit about me...
I have been making art and drawings since I was a able to hold a writing utensil. Being the "art kid" was always my primary identity growing up. My parents used to bring home reams of printer paper (the kind with green stripes and holes on the sides!) and I would just sit at my little desk and draw for hours. In preschool, I would spend my time trying to perfect my favorite subject -- unicorns! And then I'd walk around the neighborhood trying to sell my drawings for 25 cents each. In kindergarten I brought an encyclopedia (just the letter A.. my parents got it for free from a salesman) to school because I was trying to draw everything in that giant volume!
Fast forward just a few years and I earned a BA in Studio Arts in 2010, but my artistic journey was merely beginning at that point. I currently take my artistic studies more seriously than ever -- all the while tapping into the stream of curiosity and wonder that has been present (though sometimes buried) since I was a little kid.
I love learning new mediums, new techniques, and currently I am obsessed with the Impressionist Movement. I paint landscapes, figures, still lifes, portraits, pets... whatever I love, I paint. I have been increasingly painting outdoors en plein air because I find it so peaceful and liberating.
I also teach painting locally as well as online through Skillshare and YouTube. Anything I can do related to art and bringing more people to painting... that's what I'm about :)
