After my mom died, I made the decision to move to Arizona to be nearer to my dad. I didn't want him to sell the house just because he needed help maintaining it. Several discussions later, my condo in Illinois was on the market. I quit a job that I loved, packed up my cat and drove to Arizona. I love it here! Finding a job, however has proven difficult. There are not a lot of customer service call center positions in this area. Practically none. But I was scrolling through Pinterest one day and I saw an
embroidered baseball cap. I thought to myself: I can do that. Maybe that will generate a little income, or at least keep me busy.
It just so happened that the job I left was for a wholesale clothing company. I had taken several blank baseball hats with me, thinking I would need them for the hot Arizona sun. So I gave it a try. As soon as I posted my creations on social media, I had friends asking when I would be selling them. A couple offered to buy a hat on the spot.
Hats can take as little as 3 hours up to three days to embroider once I get the design set up, depending on how involved it is. The Pillow took about 5 days. I find inspiration on Pinterest and in nature. Being in the Southwest has also influenced my designs. Many of my customers have made suggestions and I have completed custom hats for them.
Although, I'm now working full time - as luck would have it, for the same company, I still enjoy creating in my spare time.
I've always been "crafty" and I'm happy that there is a forum where I can share my creations with others.
