I'm Sandie, the maker behind Say Still. I started this shop because after small, tiny realizations each and every day over the years, it was always the quietest words that stayed longest in my heart. A shared late-night conversation over a nearly empty bottle of wine, where the music had stopped but no one wanted to leave. A sudden, shared laugh in a crowded café that caught a stranger’s eye and made the whole room feel smaller. Or a quiet, ordinary Tuesday morning when someone brought a cup of coffee just the way I like it—a small, silent decision that this day, at least, should start gently.
Each thick-cut heirloom-grade yubin-ema postcard comes first from the words—simple words, quiet words, words that come to mind suddenly as you glance at ripples on the water under a sunrise, feel hands holding yours, or witness your own heart reflected in a book.
In Japan, there's a tradition of writing a wish or a prayer on a small wooden plaque—an ema—and tying it on the special wall of a shrine so it is carried somewhere beyond your own hands. Say Still follows that same gesture: you write something small and true, you tie it, and you let it go to become someone else's. Hope is a direction, what’s for you won’t pass you.
A letterpress card in your hands, tied with its vermilion kake-himo string, is a little like that. It isn't meant to sit in a drawer. It's meant to travel, to be received, and to be kept somewhere it can be found again. But of course, you can keep it for yourself, too. Many of those words left at shrines are reminders, encouragement, and inspiration meant for yourself, yet be shared by everyone else who are always leaving their own words.
Each of our postcards are letterpressed by hand in small batches. No two runs are ever identical. You can feel the physical difference under your thumb—the way the gold foil sits slightly debossed into the thick-cut cardstock, a small proof that a human hand did this.
The vermillion red kake-himo string comes last; it's the detail that truly completes our yubin-ema postcards. To create a truly immersive sensory experience, each card is gently perfumed with a signature Loewe EDT fragrance, greeting you with an exquisite, subtle aroma.
The unprinted back offers a completely clean slate, maximizing your space for heartfelt handwritten messages, sketches, or custom ink stamping. Send with or without an envelope to a loved one, tuck it into a gift basket, or hang it on your wall as decor.
Each card comes accompanied by an extension of the words—a poetry insert printed on Japanese specialty paper, offering a fuller insight into the feeling that inspired it, printed on translucent, gold-flecked vellum paper. The poem sheet is delicately tucked inside a protective sleeve alongside real, hand-pressed natural flowers and foliage.
The entire piece is then wrapped in a traditional Japanese-style using raw, textured mulberry paper for mailing, then stamped with Say Still stamp in authentic Shachihata vermilion red.
Thank you for stopping by Say Still.
As we like to say here,
wonder ever will.
