A little about me... my career... and how Sew Soft and Silky started...
I am a BScN Mac Alumni. I got my RN license in June 2020 but did not start nursing until December 2020.
I have always had a creative side in me. In the interim when I was looking for a nursing job, my brother bought me a sewing/embroidery machine. I started exploring and quickly found a love for sewing. We started off as jayjohuynh and rebranded to Sew Soft and Silky on March 28th, 2021. We were Instagram-based since November 2020.
Needless to say, 2021 was one of the most challenging years as a new-grad nurse during the pandemic. One thing I quickly learned was sewing and this business were my outlet - I spent most of my days off brainstorming new content for IG, making new creations, fulfilling orders, getting to know and connect with the community. There were odd times I told myself, “wow, I am technically working two FT jobs,” but oftentimes I realized sewing and exercising my creativity did not feel like work because I enjoyed it. And I loved seeing all of my customers so happy with what I hand-made from a piece of fabric.
From January-June 2021, through Instagram sales, we were able to raise and donate funds to the Canadian Cancer Society in support of our community of people that have been directly or indirectly impacted by cancer. We were also able to raise and donate funds to India for vital resources needed for COVID-19.
Donating to charities and people in need has always been an essential part of my character growing up and it was a pleasure to bring this part of me to my platform.
From September-November 2021, I took a break. I worked on and opened my Etsy shop in December 2021. Grew the business further until the end of 2022. Needed another break from January-October 2023 due to extenuating circumstances. This brings us to the end of 2023... and almost 2024!
Above all, I am so excited to see what 2024 has in store for Sew Soft and Silky and of course, always my pleasure and incredibly grateful to be able to share my creative side with you! Everything here is personalized with lots of love by me, Jo!
Thank you for taking the time to read a little about me, my career, and where Sew Soft and Silky originated. It means so much!
Stay safe and take care :)
