Inspired by Architecture
I started Spaceplay in 2014 after becoming disillusioned with the cutthroat commercialism controlling the architecture profession. Architecture had devolved into a game of profit-chasing, favouring the wealthy developers over genuine creative expression. So I wanted to reclaim my passion for the craft by trying something different.
My journey with Spaceplay is rooted in a profound belief that buildings aren't just structures; they're storytellers woven into the fabric of our lives. Each edifice holds a piece of our personal and collective experiences, evoking a sense of ownership and connection. This ethos birthed Spaceplay—a tribute to nurturing the bonds we all have with beloved architectures, even in the face of demolition and loss.
For me, Brutalism emerged as the best lens through which to explore this ethos. Despite being on the brink of extinction, Brutalism stands as a beacon of modern architectural experimentation. Its bold vision may not have fully materialised, but its legacy endures in the formidable structures it birthed. Spaceplay is a dedicated to preserving and celebrating this pivotal chapter in architectural history.
