Art as Design
We both went to design school for a B.A. in Industrial Design. When you spend long hours in the studio working on idealized solutions to real world problems, you start to get used to dreaming together.
We graduated (a year apart), got jobs, and got married. Jacob is living the freelance dream, and I (Grace) am working at a local design studio surrounded by other skilled creatives.
However, it wasn't long before I had the itch again. The itch to create in a purely artistic and cerebral space--perhaps not solving real world problems, but simply making the world a more beautiful and understanding place.
I love doing design for my job, but the freedom I find in creating art is how I relax in the evening and on the weekends. I find inspiration in vintage typography and illustrations, mid century design, solitary thoughts, and timeless style.
Occasionally there will be some very special pieces listed here that are from Jacob! His expertise is in woodworking, painting, and sketching. I may also steal some of his talent for collab pieces. Even when Jacob's work is not explicitly listed, I can assure you he is working behind the scenes--bringing me coffee, encouragement and giving feedback when I need an opinion.
We hope you enjoy your time in our shop!
