About theStoryOfJune
theStoryOfJune grew from a fascination with the strange space between humor and melancholy, beauty and awkwardness, familiarity and discomfort. Clay simply became the language that could hold those contradictions.
I am nil, a self-taught ceramic artist. Without the obligation to follow academic traditions, I have been free to develop a practice shaped by curiosity rather than certainty. My work is informed by a playful impulse to disrupt what feels predictable. I enjoy making sculptures that are slightly out of place. They don't illustrate ideas or tell stories. They simply exist, following their own quiet logic.
Every piece is sculpted, glazed, and finished entirely by hand in my studio. No mass production. Each sculpture carries the small variations that come from being made slowly, by one pair of hands.
theStoryOfJune is an ongoing exploration of curiosity, contradiction, and the quiet poetry of things that don't quite fit and it will continue to grow in the same spirit.
Acknowledgements
Finally, my deepest thanks to Vedat.
For every thoughtful contribution, for the extraordinary boxes that have quietly become part of theStoryOfJune, and for his uncanny devotion to John Cale—or, if we're being precise, to Sister Ray above all else.
Some things don't need an explanation. This is one of them.
