5 out of 5 starsBeautiful antique shield and fob in pristine condition creatively fashioned into a necklace of oxidized chain. The design is wonderful, and though the chain is contemporary (though doesn’t look it), the entire piece looks like an antique muff chain from the Victorian era. Susan’s technical skills, knowledge of jewelry, and creative styling are completely unique, and result in fabulous jewelry. Excellent customer service as always.

Custom and personalized orders
I love to work with clients on custom orders! A minimum 50% deposit is required to begin work, and the balance is due upon completion and client's approval . Photos are sent for the client to select materials (if applicable) and once completed, photos are sent for client's approval.
Is vermeil the same as "gold plate"?
Many people have misconceptions about vermeil, because they confuse it with "gold plate". However, they are vastly different! Vermeil must meet the FTC standard of 100 millionths of an inch (2 ½ microns) of fine gold layered over sterling silver. In order for a piece to be labeled legally as "vermeil", the item must not be less than 10 karat gold and have a substantial thickness, with a minimum thickness of 2 ½ microns. In contrast, "gold plating" is a miniscule layer of solid gold applied to a brass base. The plating does not compose any measurable proportion of the product’s total weight, and is estimated to be 0.05% or less of the metal product. Gold plating will wear off rather quickly and expose the brass base product.
Is "Gold Filled" the same as "gold plated"?
No! Gold-filled is constructed in two or three layers. The core metal is jewelers’ brass. The gold alloy is then bonded to one or both surfaces of the brass core with heat and pressure. The bonded raw material is then sold as sheet or wire to jewelry manufacturers for use in designs. Gold-filled is legally required to contain 5% or 1/20 gold by weight. This 5% is then described by the karatage of the gold alloy. Most gold-filled is 12kt or 14kt gold-filled. All of the gold-filled used in my designs is 14kt. It is a beautiful and affordable alternative to solid gold.
Care instructions
Artisan jewelry is not mass produced, and needs to be cared for properly. Please do not wear your jewelry to sleep, bathe, or swim in. A great rule of thumb is to accessorize with your jewelry last! Be sure to apply perfume and hair products before putting on your precious jewels. Vermeil and sterling silver jewelry will tarnish, so to help keep that to a minimum, please store your jewelry in the box provided when not worn. While gold fill jewelry does not tarnish in the same way, it is a good idea to also protect it in a box, to help prevent scratching or damaging of any wire wrapped pieces. To clean, you can use a mild jeweler's cleaner that is safe for gemstones and gold. Please do NOT dip pearls, opals, or any other porous stone.
